Nature Notes
Goldfinches are in the winter dress.  I saw a Great Blue Heron on our creek.  This was a case of synchronicity since I had been telling our arborist about such a sighting that had happened 3 and a half years ago and not since that time.

Thank you to Meghan of The Stitch It Podcast for talking about my show on her show.

The Blethering Room

We continue our Rip Van Winkle Challenge. (see entries for Oct 1 and Oct 8 2010)  Several Pipeliners have been on the fence about The Clapotis, a pattern by Kate Gilbert that took the knitting world by storm in 2004.   What is it about this pattern that has charmed so many knitters?

Musical Selection

Swedish Folk Musicians Anna Rynefors and Erik Ask Upmark.  Valltrall from album Dram.  Available on Magnatune.

Romper Room came immediately to mind when you had your first list of names but I thought that it was a Canadian program. I don't remember ever hearing my name!

When you first mentioned the Rip Van Winkle Challenge I thought of the Clapotis. If I wore shawls I probably would make it. I think the idea of dropping the stitches is what interests me. And the Swallowtail Shawl is on my list too. What I am going to do though is my first pair of toe up socks, if I could only decide on the pattern.

(If I could make the font smaller I would whisper. Isn't this episode 17?)

Yes, thank you, Shirley! I don't know what happened there. I have changed it.

Hi Paula, I've been enjoying your podcasts. I haven't knit the Clapotis, and don't know if I ever will. Like you, there are a lot of patterns I like better. I don't think you should be apologetic about anything you said. Yes, it is a nice pattern, but is it really so great that it should be the most popular pattern on Ravelry? Perhaps part of it is that a lot of people have knit it multiple times. It does seem to work well with varigated yarns, which not all patterns do, so that may also be part of why it's so popular.
