Episode 62 Happy Mitten Day!

Listen here or use the Flash Player on this site for current and past episodes.

Quince & Co

Nature Notes Video

According to the book Norwegian Handknits: Heirloom Designs from Vesterheim Museum October 14th is Mitten Day!

Charr and Bronwyn joined me today to discuss Mitten Day, Rip Van Winkle Challenge, our Fawl Shawl KAWL for AWL (Shaelyn), Ravelry tips, and oh my, we did laugh a LOT!  There is a blooper clip after the show's theme music if you want to hear our contagious laughter.  Every time I listen to it I start laughing all over again.  You can find them on Ravelry as Charr and Bronwyndp, and of course the are both active on our Knitting Pipeline Group on Ravelry.

Giveaway!  There will be 9 winners!

Leave a comment below with your preference for one of the apps...please also list the devices you have.

JKnit Knitting Project Assistant app for iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad --

Knit Evenly Calculator for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad

Patterns, Projects, and Links

Our Fawl Shawl KAWL for Awl continues!  Wave 2 starts on or around October 15th.  Bronwyn and Charr are still knitting Shaelyn and others are just beginning so feel free to join the fun!

I finished my Shaelyn by Leila Raabe.  I used 2 skeins of  Quince &  Co Chickadee in the colorway Carrie's Yellow.  Main Modification was that I doubled the length of the bottom lace border and added one garter ridge at the bottom of the lace.  I also used a simple backward loop instead of M1's.

Correction on TwinsetJan's tip for lifelines from last podcast.  Use a circular needle size 0000 or thereabouts.  Also, Jan says she threads the needle through the row below after knitting back.  Thanks, Jan.  I may try it again after I find a needle in this teeny tiny size!

  1. What a fun episode. I loved all the ravelry tips info. I am sure there are many more features that would make rav even better that i am unaware of.

I have an ipad and an iphone.

If i won, i would love the JKnit ipad app, then second choice is the JKnit general i-app and third choice is the knit evenly app.

    Thanks so much ladies.

  3. Great ending to a very enjoyable, change-of-pace podcast! I'm a devoted Apple fan with iPad and iPhone, but it's my iPad that lives beside me when I knit. The JKnit HD for iPad would be so useful as I continue my knitting journey. Nancy (Knitting-Quilter)

  5. I don't have an i-pod or i-pad - Have fun with the drawing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I loved the laughter. Thank you for the many helpful ideas about Ravelry apps and the easy conversation (no talkovers) between the three of you. It makes me think I am sitting out on a porch with you.
Paula has a very easy and welcoming way of reaching out to her listeners and including everyone in a project.
I'll be looking for those Estelle photos - even the unfinished (ufo's) ones.

  6. Ah sigh... I don't have any of the listed Apple products so I can't say my preference. I use the old school Ipod to listen to podcasts, and an Android phone for everything else. Maybe Jknit and other knitting app developers would release apps for us non-Apple users soon.

Thanks for a VERY entertaining podcast Paula!

  9. I was fortunate to win an Ipod touch in August and have been exploring podcasts and thoroughly enjoy the Knitting Pipeline podcast! It's such a nice blend of knitting tips, patterns and music.

Although I really don't have experience with mittens as of yet, seeing the beautiful designs may inspire me to consider a pair for this winter.

I would be interested in the Knit Evenly Calculator if I'm a winner in the giveaway. Second choice would be the Knitting Project Assistant. I don't have an Ipad at this time.

Sitting here listening to it on my IPad, drinking my coffee while everyone is out. It's a nice way to spending a weekend morning.

Most definitely putting Mitten Day on my calendar. I think it is great especially having married into a Norwegian family.
