Pipeliner Notes
There was a lot of mail this week and notes on the board in support of reading the letters from Elizabeth Zimmermann. Thank you so much for your support. I am overwhelmed.
I won’t throw away all the knitted baby things. It was a rash statement. Wool blankets that cannot be machine washed are not so practical for today’s mothers although they do seem to have superhuman strength when I see them carrying those car safety seats.
Nature Notes
At dawn on Saturday December 10 I saw the lunar eclipse and then a terrible house fire. I forgot to say on the show that no one died in the fire. Even the pets were saved.
After visiting with Charr and Bronwyn on Tuesday morning I saw a very sad event with squirrels. I will never look at a squirrel in quite the same way again.

I adore hearing your Elizabeth Zimmermann letters. I am so happy you are reading them again, as they are what got me hooked on Knitting Pipeline originally. You are so blessed to have been a friend of hers and to have these precious letters to share!

Hello Paula,
I always enjoy your podcast and especially have enjoyed the latest EZ notes.
Your Nature Notes squirrel story reminded me of a phenomenal sighting I witnessed this past October while our family was vacationing on Tybee Island on the Georgia coast. As dusk was coming on, my husband shouted for us to look into the sky. Hundreds (seemingly thousands) of little birds were swaying and swooping in an incredible wave across the beach. The ribbons and waves of birds was stunning...we were all standing in an awed silence. I couldn't identify the bird and meant to ask some local islanders, but never had the chance. I couldn't even "google" it as I didn't know what I was searching for! I finally stumbled upon what it was. It was a starling murmuration! And I discovered that we were quite blessed to have witnessed it as it's not a common sight here on the US coast. It is a common sight on the Irish coastline, however. We saw it again the following evening and then never again. I felt so blessed to have seen this; it was the icing on the cake of our vacation!
Also had to comment on the percentage sweater. I have a son who has a severe case of scoliosis. He is 13 and has had numerous surgeries to correct the twistings of his spine. He has some permanent curvature in his back and on his chest. He has an unusual shape due to his challenges and we've always struggled to find sweaters and shirts that fit him nicely. I was so excited to have been able to knit him a sweater with the percentages (and my added short-rows)! He's already outgrown the one I made, but will soon start another. He loves putting on his custom-designed sweater because IT FITS!
I love the intelligence of knitting!
