The folks at Quince &

American wool or sourced from earth friendly overseas suppliers. Check out the
new colors of Sparrow, 100% organic

lovely hand and drape as the original Sparrow.

Today’s show is totally different from previous
episodes. I will warn you up front that
there is no knitting content. Our
youngest son is visiting us and I took this opportunity to let him share his
upcoming adventure with all of you. Also, since I want to maximize time with him
there will not be an episode next week and then I will resume the following
week.
Pete is going to hike The Colorado Trail (Denver to Durango) starting in late June. He is staying here with us for a few weeks as he makes final preparations for his 485 solo journey.

We admire Pete's shelter for the trip. No floor or sides! |
Our set up for weighing and packaging supply boxes. More photos will be on my personal blog. www.apiperknits.com This is a video of Pete showing his ultralight gear to family friends. |
These beautiful days must enrich all my life. They do not exist as mere pictures, maps hung upon the walls of memory to brighten at times when touched by association or will, only to sink again like a landscape in the dark; but they saturate themselves into every part of the body and live always.

Fascinating and inspiring. Your son will never be the same after his journey. You must be so proud of the choices he is making!
May clear skies and starlit nights be constant companions and let the open mind be his guide.

What a wonderful adventure lies ahead! I wish him safe travels, peaceful times of reflection and joy on his journey. I look forward to a time where you and he can sit together with us and recount the adventure.
Safe travels
Paula - You have the MOST INTERESTING podcast! Thanks to you and Pete for watering the seed that was planted about 20 years ago to hike the CT. I hope to hear more from Pete when he is safely finished. As I live in Fort Collins and we're choking on smoke, be sure you stay aware of forest fires while you are out there!
I enjoyed the podcast with Pete.
A question I have for him though is what kind of physical training have you done to prepare you for this arduous hike?
Do you have a traing schedule you have been following? If so, what types of things do you do and how long have you been doing them?
A fascinating episode, I really enjoyed hearing about Pete's preparations for his journey and his motivations for taking the trip. I wish him a safe journey and look forward to hearing more about it.
Thank you also for the John Muir quote, it is inspirational and I shall be looking for some of his books to read.
I just opened your website because I am starting the Piper's Journey shawl and having trouble getting gauge with the recommended yarn and needles. Surprised to see your son's plan to hike the Co trail. I live north of there in CO but have friends who are currently hiking it and posting (when they can) along the way!! Hope he have an adventurous experience!! Back to the guage, since it is in garter st, do you just block to appropriate gauge? Thanks for the help!! Kathryn...kparkerwatson@yahoo.com
I am curious about rest days. Are they scheduled in? 20 miles a day with no breaks?! eeek
I love the gentle medical commentary in the background. Hope her gallbladder is better now. That shelter is amazing! Thanks for posting the video for us to see.
